Imrahil was not often in Minas Tirith nor was he often there with his wife and children. But here he was to take care of some official business on behalf of his father Adrahil II. The current Prince of Dol Amroth had very ailing health, almost too ailing to be natural, and his heir often had to step in to take care of things, especially when it required travel.
And since he did not plan on being gone long, Melethiel had decided to stay at home with the children. Of course, the boys had all wanted to join their father in Minas Tirith. But their mother insisted that they all stay home. There would be time for them to travel with their father, especially since he would be extremely busy.
But he was almost finished with everything that needed to be done and as Imrahil stood on the walls surrounding the city overlooking the Pelennor Fields, he gave a heavy sigh as the day faded into evening. He had a few more meetings tomorrow morning and then he could prepare to head home the following day, after getting some gifts for his wife and children. He gave a wry but weary smile at that thought. One of the reasons the boys were fine with staying home was they knew he was in habit of getting them small gifts whenever they went to Minas Tirith.
Yet even that humorous thought was not enough to banish his worry about his father’s health. His father was aging yes but he had always been healthy. So for his health to stick so fast so quickly was startling. There was a disturbing thought lurking at the back of his mind that his father’s illness was not a natural one. And the fact that someone might wish Adrahil harm was both mindboggling and highly disturbing. Perhaps he could tomorrow afternoon make some inquiries about any rumors about his father, though by inquiries maybe it was best to have one of his trusted servants find out what they could as unobtrusively as possible.
