“You and Paega can keep your Tait; I will keep my feet.. She’s so small, seeing her near her hooves—I couldn’t breathe.”
Ceolmund was in thought. Yes, Tait liked Paega; he liked her more than any he had ever remembered. And next time Ceolmund mused... he would take Paega alone. If he had the chance to train the child in horsemanship, he would be glad. Though Runa thought there a risk, Ceolmund knew himself that the risk was too small for him to worry on, and Paega had already the assertive nature that Tait, or any horse truly, needed.
Runa had the nature as well; yet, the fear was at the forefront.
But what if... what if Runa ever had need to ride? It was not unheard of a village being under siege, and Ceolmund had wondered himself many times if there would be a time when the people of Edoras needed retreat to Deep. How then would Runa travel? By foot? The thought made him uneasy. If there were ever a reason to depart, he could not have her be in a panicked state when the time came... all the more, if it happened while he was away... He looked to her. She would not have to learn to enjoy it. She would only need to learn how to do it. Though, he was not about to tell her this moment. It could wait.
“I can manage ginger tea. I…should also clean this mess up. I should draw us both a hot bath. It will be a while before you will get another. I suppose I should do laundry tonight as well—do…do you have everything you need, Ceol? For tomorrow.”
Ceolmund stood along with with her, watching her closely in case she were to become dizzy or ill again.
“I have everything I need for the trip,” he answered. He had packed the day before what he would take with him already, and it was all awaiting him in the hall by the entry to gather in the morning. His armor was clean and had been mended since his last ride out, and his weaponry he would take with him was upon the table, it had been cleaned and sharpened.
“There is just one thing I need... which I cannot take,” he frowned, looking down to Runa, and pressing a kiss to her brow. He lingered for a moment. He could barely stand the sad look in her eye
“You work on the tea. I will draw water for the baths,” Ceolmund said He did not think it would be a good idea for Runa to brace in and out between the cold of the outdoors and heat of the house, nor wet her fingers in the ice cold silver stream; not with how queasy she had been feeling, but standing in the kitchen to make tea would do her fine, and give her something to occupy herself.
The man readied for outdoors, boots and cloak, and drew the long large wooden basin for bathing from the lean to, moving it near the hearth, and drew the large cauldron into place, beginning his trek with the buckets, in and out until the cauldron was full and heating, and the basin half full with cold water to soon mix with the boiling. Lastly he made effort to fill the kitchen basins. At least Runa would not have to draw water again today or in the morning.
