.The Facade.
Character Name: Golasgil
Name Meaning: unknown?
Age: 32
Date of Birth: 2078 Third Age
Race: Man
Residence: Anfalas, Gondor
Profession: Lord/warrior
Appearance: tall; lean; long, dark hair; grey eyes; clean shaven
Personality: Golasgil is a level headed, rather quiet man. He is intelligent rather than rash, given to carefully weighing risk and benefit to make the best choice, versus rushing into something and damn the consequences. Some have said he is hesitant or overly cautious. But this simply isn’t true. Courage he has in abundance. He merely tempers his choices with logic and rational application of the known variables.
He is shaping up to be a good leader, despite the sudden and unexpected rise to his position as Lord. That is to say, men may have doubted his abilities, at first. There are very few who do so now. It was more a matter of his people being caught off guard by what happened and having not unreasonable reservations about this man who was never really meant to rule over them. But his calm, cool, analytical approach to seeing to the affairs of his land – their affairs – has won him many supporters.
In more private or intimate settings, Golasgil is a loving son and brother, protective of his family, and to them he will open his heart, at least some of it. There is a wound there which goes unattended, and which he tries hard to ignore, for he believes there is no repairing it. This causes him to be withdrawn, emotionally, and private, keeping that part of himself well hidden. Hard work and responsibility keep him occupied well enough that his avoidance has succeeded so far.

History: Golasgil is the young and somewhat unexpected Lord of Anfalas, an area of scattered woodlands and undulating lowlands just south of the Green Hills (Pinnath Gelin) of Western Gondor. Also known as Langstrand in the Common tongue, his lands lay between the Rivers Lefnui and Morthond (Blackroot). Lefnui is counted first of the Seven Rivers of Gondor, and flows from the White Mountains into the Bay of Belfalas. It is here that the Lords of Anfalas have longed ruled their long, narrow domain, between the sea and the foothills to the north. Ever did they pay tribute to the Prince of Dol Amroth and recognize his suzerainty, and to the east, the Kings that ruled in Minas Tirith, and later, their stewards. His people were men of Numenor. Yet as in any coastal territory, the influences of other races of man were felt throughout the centuries. The people of Anfalas are simple folk, farmers and fishermen, hunters and craftsmen. It is an area of no great wealth but sometimes of strategic importance, even given its sparse population.
The unexpectedness of Golasgil’s rule over these beaches, dunes, fields and copses came about due to the deaths of his two older brothers and father, thrusting this third son into a role he never thought to assume. It wouldn’t be accurate to say he was not prepared. His father raised all three of the brothers to be leaders of men, and Golasgil certainly had the same training and upbringing as his older siblings. The first to pass was not as unsettling as the next two. His closest brother, Esrathion, died of a fever, just on the cusp of manhood. It was sad but not something that turned Golasgil’s world on its ear. But his elder brother, and then his father, and then his young wife of only a year, died within a month of each other, under sudden circumstances that left all in the small fiefdom reeling. It seemed that Golasgil was rocketed from supporting role to leading man in a breath, and it took him a while mentally to get used to that, and no time to try to address his grief.
But needs must, and his lands needed a leader. For several years he has worked hard to be that man, the man his people need and the man his father would have hoped he would become. He still sets his grief aside, for it is a sharp edged sword upon which he has no desire to gut himself. His mother and his younger sister have been his strength in these years, his anchors that keep him centered in the position he never envisioned, as well as his solace for the emotions he rarely shows to the world. Strength. Resilience. Perseverance. Wacthfulness. These are his code and his creed and he is determined to do his best in service to his family, his people, his land and his Prince.
