The wind was howling and screaming as a nightmare! It was so loud, Narbeleth could no longer hear the waves pummeling the cliffs below. There was more noise in the invisible wind than the young woman had ever thought possible!
It had indeed been a mistake. She had stopped in the morning to see a client of hers, and her new baby who had been delivered just a week past… yet in her joy at the swaddled infant, the time had passed too quickly. Narbeleth had felt the winds picking up, and the cry of the gulls had stilled. Her client had warned her that the storm would be here before she made it home. “Wait it out here,” she had offered. But Narbeleth could not wait it out. She foolishly decided to venture back outdoors and make for home. She had only lived near Dol Amroth for the past year, and the previous autumn's storms had been mild compared. This now stretching in was a true hurricane, and like a hurricane herself, she had tried to make for home.
Narbeleth's hair had whipped free from her braid, and flew about her face from all directions, and her grey skirts were soaked clear through from the rains already. There was no way she was going to make it home, nor back to blacksmith shop before the storm hit. The streets were near clear of people now in lieu of the impending storm. The wind blew with a force that caused the young woman to take an involuntary step backward. A cart was rolling uphill through the winding street, and crashed into a white stone wall, spilling it's contents. But the contents did not still in motions as the wind picked up and threw them!
She had to get off the stone street into one of the sturdy buildings before the gusts took her in a whirlwind out to sea! Narbeleth knocked on the first door she cut through the winds to reach, but her knocks were lost to the wind, and she moved onward to the next with no better results. The third door, however, opened to her, and she rushed in with the ripping wind, though she knew not if she had entered a shop or a home.
Her senses were overloaded with the shrieking of the wind, ears ringing. Narbeleth wiped her eyes as she leaned back against the wall, eyes finally beginning to focus in the dim light of the room. “Thank the Valar!” she exclaimed.
