As always, Runa could form the words when Ceolmund could not, and he looked to her. He had always taken to sword better than word. Even with Runa he did not always know what to say, or how to say it, though she was easier than the rest, and now he did not always need to use words as before. He wrapped an arm around Runa's back, pleased with the way she had stated things.
His fingers grazed her abdomen for a moment, though he knew well enough not to let himself get carried away with that motion. Not with Hildred's eyes upon them. Indeed their first child was already growing within and awaiting his big sister. Though they could not tell Paega. Not yet! It was going to be perhaps the most difficult part. To go so long without letting her know, though maybe with Paega being so young, she would miss the little gestures and words he would lavish on Runa throughout the mornings and evenings in their home.
Paega had drawn closer. Nearer, and nearer, her wide eyes and little nose in front of Ceolmund. He almost needed to look cross eyed upon her to see her, and her curls were bobbing in a way that made him wish to touch them. He reached a hand up, and did just that, smiling slightly through his pain. She was irresistible, and he could not have hidden the look upon his face if he had wished to.
“Weally? Awe you wike my new Mama and Papa? I cawll you Papa Coleymond now?”
“Yes,” he answered. “If you wish to call me that, you may.” He would like nothing better than to be called Papa Coleymond. The way she said his name was endearing, and to be called a Papa… well, he would not mind that in the least. He was much looking forward to it.
He glanced toward Runa a moment, love brimming in his eyes, and then back to Paega. He would not suggest it, though he hoped she would say it to her next. Mama Runa. His wife needed to hear it, and she would be a good mother, and then his eyes sought for the doorway where Hildred was standing. She would be a good Grandmother.
“We… changed our house,” Ceolmund added. He knew from Hildred, and somewhat from Runa, that the little girl had been to their home during his muster, though Runa had been unwell at the time. “Added a bedroom for you. It has a window, and a bed. We are all ready to bring our little girl home now.”
