Eradan did not have to wait long. Soon, Alli’s fiery curls were bouncing and bright against the dull browns of Esgaroth’s architecture, her eyes vibrant and proud. It’s going to go to her head, Ma, the little boy thought for a moment, frowning up to the sky. Still, he knew better than to renege on a promise he had made. Long Tail was with him for his trip now, and it was the least he could do after she helped supply the whole adventure!
She was running up to him, and Eradan’s face held fast the gleam of accomplishment he felt at the full and heavy sack of food he had managed to take.
”Did you gets lots? Two weeks is a long time, you know!”
“I know two weeks is a long time!” Eradan said, rolling his eyes. What did she think he was? Six? “Look,” he added, motioning in almost vain presentation the cloth bag, full to its brim. “I even got veggies, because Ma always said it will make me strong. So it probably works on girls, too.” He grinned, the gleam boyish and thankful, though he could not bring himself to say it. Not to Alli—she would get a head on her shoulders, and then she would want to be the captain.
“Come on, Long Tail!” Eradan piped excited, hoisting the bag once more into hand. “Let’s get to the Kelda’s Pride! It’s time to go.” Eradan wasted no time, and turned, leading her back through the city. For as many adults that they passed, they were nearly unseen, and those that saw them ignored them, neither questioning why two young children were carrying such a large sack upon their backs, or curious as to why it seemed they were making way for the long bridge to the mainland.
Out and over they went, and Eradan turned back to the redhead with a smirk. ”You’re going to love her,” he promised as her motioned for her to follow. It was a fair hike to where his raft was, though complete it still looked, and Eradan’s heart swelled in happiness upon seeing her logs and sheet-sail.
He put the sack down, stepping forward and helping free the raft of her camouflage before turning back toward Alli with the largest grin he had worn in short memory. “Here she is! The Kelda’s Pride!” His tone held affection, and pride, and he looked once more upon his labors and felt hope in his chest. “I built her myself—isn’t she pretty?”
