Falkner thought of arguing, he did.
But then again he needed to remember the circumstances the man found him under. And what’s more he had a point when it came to the Gods. He would not be here in this elf’s care unless they had deemed him worth saving, even if he did have to carry him. Why they had saved him? That was anyone’s guess. Perhaps he had had a destiny and his life had been leading him to this very moment. There were those that believed that, he knew.
Regardless if there was a path or destiny he knew it would show itself in time. For now, Adan was right he needed to regain his strength. Especially if he was going to be anything to the elves other than a weakened ten year old.
As he laid resting against the elf he listened to his words about magic. Wow, it must have been truly something special to wield such power. Perhaps a little frightening too, he figured. “That’s truly something remarkable. Father told me about magic. Said it was a sight few men see in their lifetime,” he explained - in complete awe of it at such a young age. “I suppose I shall see a lot of it in this Mirkwood though.”
A forest! Falkner’s eyes lit up at that. He would feel right at home in any forest, even if they did technically live underground he would likely find himself out there often. Perhaps when he’d regained his strength and felt accustomed of course though. “It sounds grander than I even imagined! And a forest is right what I’m used to.though I feel the underground fortress will be a change,” he said as he gulped down a large bite of food. At the mention of a king, he noted. “You need not worry about me in front of the king. If I am to live there I shall show him the same respect any must. I may not have lived under one but father has taught me nobility of such a kind deserved our respect.”
He smiled a little more at the mention of his parents. He’d never had grandparents before, and quite looked forward to experiencing what that might be like. Though he had one question festering in his mind. “Sounds wonderful! But a hobbit? What is that? Is it common among these parts? I feel as though I’ve heard the name before, but...”
