Gram looked at Heruthain quietly.
Was he... Saying he would fight the man? For him? Some slave that had shown up looking like hell in this town? Why would anyone do that? Why would he defend him in such a way? Gram didn’t understand totally, but he did see the honesty in his eyes - and the others as well. The kind of honesty that he hadn’t totally come to expect from people.
“You... You would fight him if it came to that?” He questioned quietly as he noticed the buckets, and quietly hoped it’d mean an actual bath - which even he knew he needed. “For a boy you’ve just met?”
He looked at them quietly as each voiced why he should stay. How they didn’t mind another mouth to feed... Making him feel nervous and excited at the thought all at once. What a thing it would be, wouldn’t it? To have actual parents, siblings, a home? To be somewhere that he could feel safe.
Something inside could also tell they were not taking no for an answer. They’d set out in their minds that they wanted to adopt him into their home. And he could try, but they didn’t give up easily it seemed. So perhaps... Perhaps he could allow himself to stay with them in Rohan. To be a part of a family.
“If you truly believe you have room in your hearth for a third son, I will not say no. I’m not sure I could given my alternatives,” he replied honestly. “I simply hope I can prove myself worth saving - or adopting. I do not wish to be a burden upon you. I am a hard worker - I can do whatever you require. And perhaps in time I can repay you...”
It was a long winded yes. But he felt that way. That he needed to repay them in some way for this - even if he didn’t know how to yet.
