Her sudden usage of their tongue visibly shocked the orcs, and she caught several exchanging unsure glances. Despite her racing nerves, she couldn't help but feel a slight twinge of amazement. She still had no idea what she was doing, but whatever it was, it was working.
For the most part, anyway.
The boldest of the bunch was evidently unfazed by her, swaggering forward with a challenge of his own. His fellows cautioned him, but he wasn't listening, and Wyn felt her resolve flagging. What was she thinking? That she could talk her way out of this? That they'd let her go free just because she spat out a few words in their language? This entire endeavor had been idiotic, and now she was going to pay for that idiocy.
He continued to jeer, all but calling her bluff. Wyn's grip on her dagger tightened, and she could feel her breathing becoming shallower. When the orc took a final step forward, daring her to but her money where her mouth was, she could take no more. With a sudden shout, she lunged forward. She came in low, dagger held before her chest with one hand wrapped around the hilt and the other pressed to its base. With every ounce of her weight behind the thrust, she stabbed the blade deep into the orc's guts, turning his chortles into a choking gurgle. The two staggered as they collided, and with a second cry, she dragged the blade diagonally through his abdomen before jumping back. Dolnash tottered for a moment, expression somewhere between stunned surprise and indignant rage, then toppled into the dust.
Panting, Wyn stared at the body for a moment before glancing back at the others. Well, she supposed, there was no backing down now--she was riding this through to the end. <"Anyone else want to try their luck?"> she challenged, taking a step towards them with knife brandished.
