Tika was born in Far South Harad, in the great jungle where there was still green. Dense green jungle filled with sweatering steam, massive tree cats and winding rivers, teeming with life as dangerous as the jungle surroundings. In the depths of the jungle is a city called Ziliktec, a city of stone that was carved out when the Avari still walked the jungles and befriended the reclusive jungle people that called themselves the Chlie. Once Ziliktec was a center of trade when Haradwraith was green, now all but forgotten save the brave souls of Harad that come in search for the Oliphants, the jungle cats. Rare silk works, resins and stone not found anywhere else. Ziliktec is but a fable in the lands beyond Harad.
In ancient times, the Chlie believed the Avari elves were gods. Star Gods. Ageless and immortal beings that walked amongst them in the dark of the jungles, until many left and those that remained hid in the vastness of the jungle lands. Those that had left had heard the summon of the dark lord.
The Chlie once believed the Star Gods had walked their land, lived amongst them in kinship and shared their bloodline with a select few families. The Moon Priests considered themselves descended from these people as did the Adhikari. The marks of the Star Gods blood in their descendents is marked by their unusual eyes. All those who carried the blood of the avari have eyes of mist, silver, grey twilight before dawn, river rock. All shades of grey encompassing, paired with the dark hair of the jungle people and dusky skin. What are known as a half elf, the line of men and elf is called by another name in Chlie culture, they have their own bloodlines. In the rough tongue of a tribal people they are called Iraianbu. The divine love, love between the elf and the mortal that gave forth the line of the Iraianbu.
Tika, the highest daughter of an Avari and a warlord of the Adhikari tribe had been promised from birth to the Priest Sarst. The moon Priest of the Chlie tribe, the highest of his order. Sarst called Tika by another name, Kamaria. The Moon. For Tika was born during a lunar eclipse. Kamaria as she was called by those of the Moon Order, was she who was promised. In Chlie culture, the first daughter of a priestess born during a lunar eclipse is believed to be the living spirit of their Star Goddess, reincarnated. It is long forgotten amongst the memory of men how this belief came into being but nonetheless it is the Chlie’s belief.
From an early age, Tika knew she had been promised to the priest Sarst that never seemed to age. Her family lavished in wealth for a bride price. Given Jade, Obsidian and Magnetite. Tika was raised by her community to be a dutiful bride, to honor the gods that had blessed her as Iraianbu and chosen her as a reincarnation. Duty was not what Tika wanted, she craved a life of adventure and meaning. She craved to be her own person that was not bound by the governance of the tribes and expectations of her birth. Not to be a puppet for society.
Society expected Tika to conduct rituals, to perform the art of seduction that led to ritualistic sacrifice while using hallucinogenic herbs which grow in the belly of the jungle, it was the living goddess in woman’s body duty to fill the blood bowels to appease the old ways and fuel their warfare. The priest they spoke of the stars and often looked towards them. They cherished starlight and delighted in moonlight. They remember those that were of the beautiful race tall and other worldly. Keepers of knowledge only passed on to Priest and Priestesses of Chlie’s Moon Tribe. They had once walked amongst mortals in twilight. During the dark days beyond memory of Tika’s kin, save in the teaching of the Priests. Remembered in the rituals that they blended of two cultures.
On the eve of her wedding, Tika made a sacrifice to the gods, her priestly husband lay on the temple floor; behind closed doors he was choking on his own blood while Tika had fulfilled her obligations as a wife and she committed atrocity by murdering the head of the priesthood. Tika had slain a holy man, slayed one of her own kin. Kinslayer.
The body was found and Tika gave no admission of her guilt but the burden of proof was there. They had been alone in the temple, someone had seen them enter together and Tika leave alone. Protocol demanded that kinslayers be excommunicated, which is exactly what happened. Tika was stripped of her esteemed rank amongst her people. They ignored that she was Iraianbu, carried bound in rope Tika was banished from the jungle. Left in the desert to die under the blistering sun.
Tika would be picked up by a raiding party in the desert where she was gawked at, for few ever saw one of the jungle kindred. The Chlie tribal paint that Tika wore on her cheeks was noticed by the leader of the raiding party who knew the customs of the reclusive Chlie. He knew the look of banishment and rather then let her have death, for death was too easy and kind. They took her northwards with them to Umbar.
Zarif al-Naqvi, a chieftain in Haradwraith. Tika was taken to this Haradwraith chieftian by the raiding party from the south. She was pretty enough to consider for concubinage. But Zarif had other plans for Tika, as he considered her a gift from the jungle. He had a son in the north and what better way to buy the son than with an expensive gift. Tika’s captivity brought with it the luxurious clothes of silk, gold, silver and precious gems. Rich oils applied to her skin and hair.
Dressed as an exotic elven looking beauty in the cold of the northlands. Tika’s sharp eyes and ears became the tools of a spy within al-Naqvi’s household.
