“We shall save the helm for another day.”
"I am most grateful for that, milord!" She grinned, having the same thought that he did. As it was, she would have to calculate each step and movement, lest she crumple to the ground most unceremoniously!
Giving him a slight nod, she accepted the sword and shield, testing the weight and balance with the armor, then trudging after Ceolmund to the yard.
“First things first. You need to keep your balance. You are small, and can't use your weight to stay standing the way I might. Keep your feet flat on the ground. Sliding steps… hold your sword up, but elbow bent so you do not tire your arm too quickly.” He demonstrated the motions to her. “Let me see you try it.”
She nodded, holding the shield over her left forearm as she gripped the sword with her right hand. Slowly, she took a few shuffling steps before getting her foot caught in her skirts. Pitching forward, she managed to keep her grip on the shield and sword, but that made her fall to her knees and elbows, her chin smacking into the dirt. Letting out a startled, 'EEP!', she pushed back to her haunches, then shifted this way and that until she finally managed to get her feet under her.
"Well, that didn't go so well!" she declared with a grin, squaring her shoulders, ignoring the stinging at her chin -- she'd suffered far worse working with the horses and scuffling with her brother. "I admit, though, that I am not very graceful on my feet. Put me on a horse, different story, but dancing!"
She managed to do a wobbly pirouette, just managing it plant her feet solidly to keep from tumbling to the ground again. "Well, we won't be dancing, right?"
