.The Facade.
Character Name:
Gwaihir the Windlord
Name Meaning: Sindarin terms gwaew ("storm, wind") and hîr ("lord, master")
Age:
Over 6000 years.
Date of Birth:
His life spans all three ages since the creation of the earth.
Race: Eagle of Manwë
Residence:
Gwaihir’s realm covers the span of Middle Earth, but at most times his perch is in the northern Misty Mountains, near the High Pass leading from Rivendell, where he looks over his kinfolk.
He does often patrol with his kin to the northern borders of the Misty Mountains and sees many happenings in the land.
Profession:
Lord of the Eagles
Appearance:
The appearance of a great eagle, golden brown in color with a gold beak. He is 8m (26ft) tall with a 30m (100ft) wingspan.
Eagles have no skill in weapontry whether fair or foul, but are given by Manwë what they need for defense; eyesight that surpasses all the creatures of the earth, wings with the power of the greatest winds and waterfalls behind them, talons as hard as ivory tusk, and a beak that can shred enemies.
Personality: The ancient birds of the northern mountains were noble, the greatest of all birds. Gwaihir is proud and strong, a leader of all eagles and any bird that flies throughout Middle Earth. He is quick to know the intentions in the hearts of men and elves, dwarves and hobbits, and would never trust an orc. His eyes and ears are keen, and his wings are strong.
A birds main weakness is upon the land, where he cannot travel or defend itself easily if wing becomes maimed. Another vulnerability of the great eagles is that they are so large in open sky they will not go unnoticed, and so they must fly high or be stealthy in their comings and goings.
It hardly be said that this character has the ability to fly to heights leagues above the earth, withstand the harsh cold and winds of the Misty Mountains, and pick whole sheep from the ground to take back to the eyrie. His eyesight, is the sharpest of all creatures, and his beak and talons deadly. His size is great, yet he can pass harmlessly through the air.

He later participated in the Battle of the Five Armies to defeat the orcs and let the race of Dwarves and Men take back the mountain of Erebor and the city of Dale. At this point Gwaihir was given the title "King of All Birds", and given a golden crown.
