.The Facade.
Character Name:
Narbeleth
Name Meaning: Mighty Fire Maiden ("Naur" (fire) "Beleg" (mighty) "Eth" (female))
Age:
19
Date of Birth:
31 Narquelië (October) 2991
Race: Human
Residence:
Belfalas, near Dol Amroth
Formerly of Minas Tirith
Profession:
Midwife
Appearance:
Though Narbeleth was always a tall and skinny youth, and teased for her ‘boyish’ stature through her teenage years. It seems now though, that her body has finally caught up with her, and she has become more womanly and soft in figure. Though others have noticed her beauty, the woman has not, nor does she care to. There are many more things to be concerned about. She always dresses well, and keeps clean, but she has never cared to listen to the latest fashion sense, and wears what she deems comfortable and appropriate.
The woman is by far the shortest of the ladies in her family (at least the grown ones), at a mere 5’6”, but she makes up for it in energy. She is still quite slender, with a thin face and straight black hair that does none to hide the leanness of her features. Yet, she is quite strong for her size, and the arms and legs hidden beneath her dresses are quite muscular. Her eyes are the same grey of most of her family, and always bright.
Narbeleth’s hands are perhaps the only way in which she expresses some form of vanity. Grandmother has always told her that the hands of a midwife must be fine and soft, for the comfort of the women and babies she works with. Thus, despite the daily chores she sees to in her own home, the woman does well at caring for her hands to keep them delicate to the touch, if only for the people she cares for, though they are very strong and well managed.
Personality: Narbeleth is named for the autumn season, and the month in which she was born. Her name, it seems, was chosen with right consequence for this woman has grown to be ever as fiery as the month itself. She has a blazing spirit and strong willed personality, yet she is even tempered and hides any anger or sadness beneath her beneath her laughter and jokes.
The young woman is very independent and unwilling most cases to admit when she is wrong or needs help. Her views are strong and decided, and she expresses them with much energy. She still tends to a forceful nature, and will do all that she can at times to intervene in the lives of her family when she thinks they need it, though steps back at the opportune time to let them take charge of their own situations. In most cases, she is quite right in her prying, and is thanked in the end.
Sometimes it may be difficult to take a long look at the woman, for she is always in motion. Her energy exceeds that of most of her family, and she is often the first to rise, and the last to go to retire at night. She is rarely inclined to sit still.
Her passions include first most; her family and caring for them, and after them, caring for others. When she is outside of her home, and working in midwifery with her Grandmother, her passion is for the women and babies she works with. She adores children; perhaps for their energy and spontaneity which is so much like her own, and at times she spends the days watching not only her own younger siblings, but neighbor children. When she is not working among people, she enjoys to pleasure herself with horses, singing, and dancing. She is fond of the physical exerts of climbing, running, and swimming, and archery.

History:
Narbeleth was a wild and energetic child, always in trouble for her behaviors. As a youth, she could barely control her own jubilance and temper, which oftentimes led to lectures and scolding. The child though, was quite cheery despite it all, and was well loved. She was social in nature, and learned well at a young age the proper etiquette and control of herself among others, though at times her emotions still get the better of her.
Even from the young age of eleven, Narbeleth has always been a caretaker for her family, seeing to her mother and older sister in their grief a the passing of her father. She took on a great load of responsibility for her family at a young age; for she also had a younger sister and brother, and a new infant to care for. The first months were excruciating for her, but she did all she could to comfort her family. Her own grief was expressed in her high energy and the way she cared for others. Beleth has never been a woman to cry or mourn over the past for very long, though she does miss her father.
One of her closest confidantes is her grandmother, Tinuves. When Tinuves moved to the city of Minas Tirith, Narbeleth clung to the quiet grandmother who she had only seen before on brief summer visits. The gentle elder and the spirited girl went well together, and perhaps her grandmother’s advice and criticism is the only she will listen to. Grandmother stepping in to care for the young children returned Narbeleth’s childhood to her, though she grew very close to the older lady.
Being quite shunned by her fifteen year old sister at this age, the young girl took to shadowing her brother when allowed the freedom of it. Faeldor did not mind, for he had always been shadowed by his sister Miriel, but Miriel’s attentions left him, and now Narbeleth’s came to him. It was a comfort. Narbeleth grew very close to her brother over the years, and learned all his skills of horsemanship. She adores the creatures, and is skilled in all types of riding, though she as of late has not been allowed much outside the city.
As the young girl grew older, she took interest in her grandmother’s profession, and often went as her assistant to help her in midwifery. The thought of caring for expecting mothers and their babies was quite pleasant, for she loved children. And was it not just the most blessed thing to see the mothers as they had the first glimpse of the babies they had carried for so many months. At the age of fourteen she decided that she would also be a midwife, as her grandmother, and Tinuves began to officially train her. Since, she has learned all there is to know of natal care, and her gentle demeanor and love for people has helped her so. She is still an assistant to her grandmother at this time, but it will not be very long before she is experienced enough to work on her own, and with her own assistants.
Narbeleth never took much interest in the arts, as the other members of her family had. Her parents had inclined for her to learn the art of painting; though Beleth had not the patience to sit for hours on end to practice. Her grandfather attempted to teach her music, yet again, she was bored with long hours of repetitive note playing. Though weaving and sewing required quick work of the hands, they required the rest of her body to be still, so she was not interested in those practices either, and struggled to learn the minimum of which a young lady should know. The woman was tutored to read and write as were all in her class of family, but none of it came to interest in her own mind, and she is highly bored with books and manuscripts.
One pastime she has always enjoyed is dance, and she is quite talented in it; especially enjoying the lively dances that her Grandfather plays on his fiddle. She loves to dance with people; whether it be her gifted older brother, or her smallest siblings. Many times, if she is found alone time in the evenings, when her daily chores are done, she will dance solo among the gardens behind their house. The movement is comforting and calming to her, and she perhaps feels most sedate when she is currently expending energy.
The woman also delights in song. She will not sit still to play an instrument, but she will sing while she is moving, and she is very fine in voice. Singing with others is her primary joy, but she also enjoys simply singing to others, and even alone. Often times, if she is found dancing solo, the music she dances to comes from her own lips.
Given her disastrously careless nature, Narbeleth's brother sent her for a time to stay with their relatives in the region of Belfalas near Dol Amroth. During the time, she went against her brother's wishes and eloped with her energetic and impulsive young husband, Calon. They have now decided to stay in Belfalas among the ocean cliffs, where Narbeleth has settled herself to begin gaining clients with her midwifery skills, and she assists her husband where she can in the smithy. When work is not calling, she can be found climbing high among the cliffs, and hunting in the deeps of the forest, or simply singing and dancing about as she tends to her own home.
Narbeleth is highly confidant in humans and the strength of men. Despite the eminent war at hand, she knows that Gondor will succeed in the end, for how could they be defeated with such strong Captains in the head of their well trained Army and Calvary? In her eyes, Gondor could never fall.
