Appearance: Ravondis is a shapeshifter; on her missions she can take the shape of a great bat, brown and russet, with red eyes, fangs, and her great fingered wings are barbed at each joint's end with an iron claw.
Of her human form used for speech and deceit she appears in the form of a young woman, red of eye and russet haired.

Personality:
Ravondis in her bat form is a cruel and cunning commander, and fights hard with her teeth, wings, and claws. In human form she is both charming and conniving, though given away by her eyes, it can be difficult for her to hide her true persona. When in trouble, she may shift her shape and fly away at will, and she has some power over both wind and fire. She prefers to appear only at night and in the day stays hidden away in her caves.

History:

The Maiar was a neverborn, and descended to Arda along with the Valar. Among those who were corrupted in the early days by the Valar Melkor, Ravondis called home the pits of Utumno, and dwelled amongst those creatures who were loyal only to to the Dark One. She haunted the surrounding forests, keeping enemies away and bringing news to those who needed it; Melkor and one of his chief servants, Sauron the Sorcerer.

Though Melkor was taken captive and thrust to the abyss, and her homeland of Angband destroyed, Ravonidis hid. For years she clung with creased wings to the rock faces in the deep caves and waited.

“Nonetheless the Valar did not discover all the mighty vaults and caverns hidden with deceit far under the fortresses of Angband and Utumno. Many evil things still lingered there, and others were dispersed and fled into the dark and roamed in the waste places of the world, awaiting a more evil hour; and Sauron they did not find.”

Ravondis has been ever loyal to Sauron, the greatest and most powerful Maiar to have ever walked the earth. She has followed him through all his wars, and always sought the cause that he seeks. She dwelled for a time in Dol Guldur when the Necromancer was rising in power, and helped to lead the hosts of bats to the battle of the five armies.

She currently dwells in the caves amidst the Emyn Muil, a labyrinth of rocky outcrops to the north of Mordor, and guards the passageway through the Dead Marshes, bringing all news that she can gain from the human and elven realms to her Master's keen ear and eye.
