Caeden Greymark of Rohan 34 | farmer | retired rider of the mark | eorling | pb: chris hemsworth |
Personality⚘
Externally, Caeden Greymark doesn't read as very complex. He has a smile that comes out easily and he's oozing with charm and charisma. His youthful self was very much the same. The only difference then, were his wild impulses which his mother claimed, 'scared her half to death'. He'd climb into the tallest of the sparse trees on the far side of the house and hang himself upside down; lay in wait for his father to come around with the hay wagon before dropping himself the impressive distance into the moving target of soft dry grasses. And when the untamed little boy started to notice girls, he'd worry his parents with all those other classic troubles. Caeden was oft to stay out deep into the evening, or he would slack off on his chores, and it was only made worse because the heat would invariably come down upon his identical twin. It made for a lot of friction because of his insouciant exterior attitude.
Underneath what he presents, Caeden is layered. His mind worries about his choices, both past and future. He is old fashioned and refuses to modernize the way that the farm is run, additionally, he is as stubborn as a mule when it comes to keeping his family's little scrap of eighty six acres. The farm cannot run by one man's hands alone, so Caed shares a portion of the land with farmhands, and it is not uncommon for everyone to spend mealtime together. He loves his family and they come before duty, this is especially true with his baby sister. As for his relationship with his identical twin, it is a bit estranged considering that their lives took them in separate directions.

Appearance↠
Broad shouldered, tall, and sporting hair that can go quite flaxen in the summer months, Caeden looks every bit a native to his homeland. Facial hair varies seasonally, but it is not uncommon for him to go for extended stretches where he neglects to scrape an edge over his cheek until he's is scolded by his mother or anyone else that has managed to earn his respect. Attire is a hodgepodge of leather, cotton and linens, and most of it is sun bleached and weatherworn. He does not appear wholly impoverished, but with a bit of a wash-up and some finer clothing his visage could shine much brighter. Unlike his brother, he prefers to crop off his hair when it gets too long. he used to wear it longer when he was a teenager, but during his time in the Mark, he found the convenience of hair never in his face, to be extremely appealing. His eyes have been described as flinty and blue, but to his mother his eyes are the colour of the Belegaer sea in the summer months.

History⌛
It is a blessing when a family's future is born into the world through a male successor. In the case of the Greymark family, their blessing came in twofold. No one, aside from the midwife and their mother knows which of the boys came into the world first and it has been the subject of much speculation between the twins. As thick as thieves they were for most of their childhood and budding youth. Caeden was the silly heart, the reckless kid who sought out adventure and dreams of riding the golden planes with idolized heroes of the Mark. Søren was the more level headed of the pair, despite the fact that he was quicker to anger. Søren dealt with that stain on his character by walking it off or isolating himself until the storm of emotions passed.
When the family was again blessed with the gift of a daughter, the Greymark twins were almost nine. Their mother was ecstatic to have a little girl. Anja was as precocious as her siblings and it was no secret that her brothers doted on her, almost to excess. But it was to their father that Anja was the closest. His time amid the family was the most limited because of his station as county Aldor. Micromanaging the affairs of Stoke and its outlying land was very taxing on his time and he often had to spend his evenings away from home because of the tax upon his horse and the lengthy distance between the farm and the magisterial offices.
It wasn't really until the responsibilities of manhood began to press upon the twins that they chose to walk different paths. Caeden pursued a life with the Éored under the second Marshall's charge. He considered it to be his responsibility because of his father's station of Aldor within the county of Stoke. He did well for himself, defending the western stretch of Rohan with this fellow horseman. His rank and station made it possible for him to continue to reside primary at home, unless he and the other Eorlingas in the muster were on campaign. Time at home was spent helping out with the hard work and backbreaking labour that was routine for maintaining a farm and modest household. Things would have likely continued in this fashion for many years were it not for the sacking of the farm in the late summer of 3007 [T.A.]
Initial reports that came to Caeden were muddied and it was impossible to determine who was to blame for the south forty being set ablaze while a ransacking of the livestock was being waged just a half are off from the main farmhouse. It took him a full day and a half to traverse the distance at a hard, unrelenting pace before he could determine the answer and reassure that none of his family had been killed. Mother had wisely taken to the potato cellar with his sister, and several of the farmhand's wives and children. His father took up a defensive posture with the able bodied and a contingency of neighbours who arrived when the light from the brushfire alerted them of the need.
Arriving almost four days after the near massacre of his family and home hit very close to the heart. more than half of the crop that was meant to sustain the household for the winter was destroyed and his father lost an arm to infection after withstanding defensive wounds from fending off the large party of Dunlendings. For more than a fortnight, he remained at the homestead and pitched in to do all that he could to help with the relief effort. It was during this extended stay that he noticed certain cracks in the veneer of his idyllic home life that he had not noticed before. Signs popped up that were he to leave them again in this vulnerable state, it would mark them ripe for targeting.
His mother was keen to point out that the neighbouring suitor to his sister was more interested in the land than finding himself a wife; that Anja was too blinded by his silvered tongue and good looks to notice. Father would have to spend even more of his time away, now that his body was broken and he was destined to life behind a desk if he hoped to keep the finances out of the red. Choices had to be made, and anger fuelled a lot of them. Were they, the Riders of the Mark, not supposed to be defending this very land to prevent incidents such as this? Would things have turned out differently if he had not left them to serve crown and country?
Fuelled by rage and (unbeknownst at the time) misinformation, Caeden Greymark sought to confront the parties responsible for not properly defending the border into open country and defenceless countrymen. Leaping from his horse, he managed to get in a few swings. Éomer got hit the hardest. Rumours say his jaw still clicks when he chews due to the fracture. But his true target was the man in charge of the Westfold's contingency; the Second Marshall of Rohan, Prince Théodred. Twice did his fist strike home before he was pulled from the fight by his Captain and stalwart friend, Ceolmund. Right or wrong, striking the heir to Edoras was an offence that was unforgivable.
In the years to follow, Caed's life has become one of early retirement. He rarely speaks of his time within the Mark and he will actively walk away from anyone who presses him for more information than he is willing to share. Shame, stubbornness, and an unwillingness to further tarnish his father's reputation make up a good portion of why he keeps his reasons for leaving to himself. But at the deepest core, it is because he fears that he was right to accuse the Prince of being an imperfect leader.
