.The Facade.
Character Name: Eothain
Name Meaning: horse-back warrior
Age: 20
Date of Birth: July 15, 2990 3rd Age
Race: Man.
Residence: Edoras
Profession: member of the King’s Guard/soldier
Appearance: typical for the men of Rohan, Eothain stands at around 6’3”. He is easily remarkable for his flaming red hair, and bright blue eyes.
Personality: Eothain is, for the most part, an even tempered young man. However, sometimes he can act impetuously and let his emotions get the better of him. He is working to try to curb this impassivity. He has a naturally kind, sweet disposition and would do anything within his power to help someone in need. His father taught him to be of sound moral character, loyal to family, friends and King, generous of spirit, and brave. He doesn’t always live up to these ideals though. He is sometimes a bit moody and lets things rankle inside. This probably stems from a lingering sense of insecurity about himself and his place in the culture into which he was adopted. He worries that others might find him lacking, and this scares him, though he doesn’t show it as fear. If anything, he may come across as a bit arrogant at times, especially when he feels stressed about how others are viewing him. Again, he is aware of these negative tendencies of his and he tries to overcome them – though not always successfully.
Parents: Wulf & Eored
Sibling(s): two sisters and one brother, all older
Spouse: Eofor
Children: None at this time
History: Never let it be said that the Orcs of the White Mountains to the south, and the Misty Mountains to the north-east, preyed only on the straw-heads of the Riddermark. The men of Dunland, too, suffered raids from time to time. It was one such foray into the fringes of the southern Enedwaith that left the child that would be renamed Eothain an orphan, along with several older siblings. Their parents had hidden them and perished soon thereafter. The children remained at the small homestead but every scrap of food was taken, and the small hut they called home burnt to the ground. Gunger and fear soon saw them on the march where to was known only by the eldest, a girl of twelve who carried the redheaded babe on her hip and led the other two by the hand, all four clinging to one another for dear life.
Fate, which had so cruelly deprived them of their parents, was kind enough to lead them to an enclave where they were taken in, by strangers. Strange indeed, for these tall, broad men with golden hair spoke another language altogether. But, oddly enough, one that the oldest girl recognized as speech which she had sometimes heard her Mother utter under her breath and never within hearing of her husband. For in truth, their Mother had been a maiden taken from her own home by the dusky skinned men of the northwestern borders.
The children were a mix of the races of Dunland and Rohan. But they were treated kindly enough, and eventually became part of a family headed by two men, Wulf and Eored. Instead of mother and father, they were father and father, but they were kind and good providers. The children prospered and the youngest, whom the two men came to call Eothain, grew up healthy and robust, with no real memories of his babyhood in that other place. His flaming red hair and height marked him as a child of the horse-men, and he grew up knowing of his origins, but always feeling himself to be a true Rohirrim.
Having been taught by his fathers to use all manner of weapons; sword and dagger, spear and bow – Eothain was eager to join the soldiers who served the King in Edoras. When he was sixteen he bid a fond farewell to his family and traveled to the Golden Hall of Meduseld to offer his services. He was accepted into the mounted military of the Riddermark, where he had the chance to hone his fighting skills. There he was encountered by another youngster by the name of Eofor. The two became best friends, and soon enough, discovered that there was true affection between them. Affection blossomed to a romantic attachment and love quickly grew between them, a love which they were careful to keep to themselves, unsure of how such a relationship might be viewed by the others in their unit. Eventually, they came to the decision though that they would not keep their affections hidden in the shadows, and they openly revealed that they were in love and wished to wed. They recently went through with their plan, and now, happily married, they continue serving in the Eored, and have begun to discuss the possibility of adopting children of their own.
