Young Lithien had the golden splendor of her home behind, journeying for the first time ever to the woods of green. In her small number of years (compared to most), she had spent most of her days in Lothlorien. Her family was there, her duties were there, and it made sense to stay within the silver trees. However, she had always wished to see more of Middle Earth. Her family had made a handful of visits to Imladris, but it had been quite some time now.
After all, she had only been an elfling then.
Caladir, her brother, had traveled this way more than once. He often returned with stories from the halls of the Elven King of Mirkwood, and Lithien absorbed every word with a strange sense of longing. Upon his most recent return, he had brought with him a leaf-wrapped parcel; it could only be one thing – a thing of legends. It had been given to help with the journey home, a most nourishing and delicious bread. Truly, it was an art, Lembas. And it was a recipe that very few were privileged and skilled enough to know. One tiny taste had told Lithien that this had been made by a master. An avid baker herself, she wondered if she could ever perfect such a noteworthy baked-good.
So, when Caladir had announced that a small party of Lorien elves were to pay a visit to Mirkwood, she packed her traveling things with haste. It was with hesitance that they agreed to bring along the healer, for she was young and naïve and rarely carried a weapon. During their time traveling, the others had kept watchful eyes – always wary and cautious of potential dark threats that might be lurking in the shadows. But Lithien looked upon their surroundings with wonder.
The river Anduin was such a lovely sight, the wildlife was simply joyous, and the forest was picturesque – and likely full of herbs and fungus to forage. However, Lithien was kept from straying, no matter how her focus flitted from one thing to another.
“How grand,” She spoke breathlessly as they passed through the gates and into the halls, it was such a treat to be welcome here. As Caladir and his fellows set off to familiar haunts, Lithien had been left to her own devices. She had been given directions to her quarters… but there was still much time for exploring.
